Friends, I haven’t put together a newsletter since January of this year! I’d like to get back to monthly or bi-monthly newsletters, but let’s just start with this one and see what happens. First, a recap of some bigger happenings from earlier in 2021…
Wine Thief won a songwriting contest hosted by The Front Porch in Charlottesville, VA
Wine Thief has since parted ways, but we wrote a few good songs while we were together. I’m thankful to The Front Porch for memorializing “Mirror Writing” with this video.
Videos produced by The Barn in Leesburg, VA for publication by Gather Live, EventsDC
During autumn 2020, I collaborated with The Barn, a studio in Leesburg, VA, to produce a three-song video concert for Gather Live by EventsDC. To watch all three songs – “Here Right Now,” “Sorry ‘Bout Your Boyfriend,” and “If You Wanna Stay” – CLICK HERE. Check out companion releases by Yasmin Williams and The Duskwhales, recorded on the same day.
2021 Tiny Desk Contest submission: “I Could Grow A Second Set of Legs”
I wrote this song the week before making this video in early June and submitted it to NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest. I’ve since learned to use a condenser mic, an interface, and recording software to level up the sound quality of my videos, and I look forward to releasing similar style content (with better audio) in the near(ish) future.
I just realized that we have something special to celebrate…
The first anniversary of Quiet Corners
Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 marks one year since the release of my debut 6-song EP, Quiet Corners. To mark the occasion:
- You can stream the album again on any service (except Amazon).
- You can purchase the album on bandcamp.
- You can check out an alternate version of the album cover that I considered using (pictured below).
- You can look at the Spotify stream stats and feel proud that you helped me share my songs with about 13,000 people worldwide.
- You can revisit the video I made on the morning I wrote “Here Right Now.”
Yes, live music is still happening… for now
I’m writing this on Sunday, August 29th, two days after my first venue show in a long while. I opened for The Barefoot Movement at Jammin’ Java in Vienna. My friend, Natalie, got this video of one of my newest songs, “To The Moon.”
Most venues are requiring vaccine cards as proof of vaccination and masks indoors. Please, if you haven’t yet, consider getting vaccinated to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The continuation of live music depends on us keeping ourselves and our communities healthy.

I opened up my own lessons studio in Remington, VA back in January of this year. Since then, I’ve more than doubled the number of private students I’m teaching weekly.
If you’re interested in studying guitar, bass, and/or songwriting, I’ve got one more evening slot and a couple of day time slots available. You can sign up at SoundHouseVA.com/Apply.
